All the rods seals in this kit are made out of Viton a very expensive super material formulated by Dupont and will resist everything from ethanal to UV's to Oxidation from salt water environments. You won't find a better kit anywhere for this application, once properly rebuilt these seals will outlive the life of the motor. We also included the 5 O-rings in between the valve body and manifold, if your unit is giving you issues the valve body needs to come off and the 5 O rings need to be replaced. This was a flawed design put together by showa, in a Freshwater application on a bass boat you will see the bolts have stretched and lost their torque from the hydraulic pressure in between the valve body and manifold. In a salt water application salt and corrosion builds between the flange and wedges it apart as well as oxidizing the O-ring grooves and forcing them to fail and fall out of place.

The O-rings and seals are of very good quality, not the knock offs like you may find at other sites for a much cheaper price. The price seems a little high for what you're getting and there are no instructions on which O ring goes where. This makes it very difficult to match things up. So, in summary, you get a solid set of O-rings and seals for what I feel is an inflated price and you have to figure out where they go.

I purchased this kit to do a rebuilt on my 1997 Suzuki 140. I found this kit and decided to do the job myself after watching several Showa brand hydraulic rebuilds on the internet. My only complaint is there are no directions as to which “O” ring goes where. Several were close in size to others in the kit. It would be nice if they were marked and labeled for where they go on each piston. I separated all the rings by size to get them into separate groups. I then pulled one old O ring off at a time and sized it up to a new one getting them close as possible. This is not a difficult job and felt it was very easy. My trim unit took two separate wrenches to remove the caps in order to remove the pistons. For everything it cost me about 180.00 but we’ll worth the savings for technician to do it. I also watched the video step by step as I did the job which helps prevent any mistakes. Despite on minor complaint, I am happy with the product! Thanks Five Star Marine!!!
