We have ran into these pins completely corroding and leaking especially on boats that are kept in the water. 

This was a Mercury design and was adopted by Yamaha and Suzuki for their large HP applications overall its a good design except for the corrosion / Electrolysis issue surrounding this design. 

Upgrades For Our Kit include- 

Extruded Aircraft Grade Aluminum with Type 3 Hard Anodization (Military Grade Anodization) 

Viton o-Rings to prevent oxidation and help withstand the salt water environment. 

Teflon Back Up Rings to prevent extrusion under High Pressure Loads. 

A ground location to help prevent corrosion from isolation.

The OEM parts were not up to our standards when we rebuild them in house the OEM parts were dissolving and creating issues for us this made us come up with advanced solutions for age old problems.
